One of the least used benefits included in your home and car insurance are the assistance programmes, which include plumbers, glaziers, electricians, locksmiths, roadside assistance and chauffeur services. The main categories can be divided into home, road and chauffeur.
The highlights of these services are as follows:
- The cost is already included in your premium – no call-out fee and at least one hour of free labour is included.
- The claims process is (usually) much more efficient.
- An insurance-approved provider is used, which means the lowest possible costs for you.
The emergency numbers are not only for emergencies, but can be used for any claim, situation or to book a service
Chauffeur service
This service is also called ‘take-me-home’. It is important to book this service in advance. You set a time and place where you will be picked up and driven home in your car. You can also use the service to be driven to destinations such as the airport. Old Mutual Elite offers 12 rides within 100 km of your home, but most other insurers offer 6 rides per year within 50 km. Unfortunately, Old Mutual does not offer this service.
Home Assist
If you have problems with plumbing, glass, electrics, locks and much more, call the emergency number and ask if the problem is covered. Chances are very good that the costs will be covered at least partially or even completely. Usually there are no travel or labour costs, you will only have to pay for the materials if it is not a claimable event. Point out to the service provider that no work may be carried out if the costs have not been agreed with you in advance.
Road Assist
Most people are familiar with the AA service. This service is very similar and helps with flat batteries, flat tyres, locked keys and fuel assistance or even towing for mechanical and electrical breakdowns. Some insurers even provide an allowance for accommodation, car hire and other services if you are not close to home.
